1. Fear keeps us focused on the past or worried about the future. If we can acknowledge our fear, we can realize that right now we are okay. Right now, today, we are still alive, and our bodies are working marvelously. Our eyes can still see the beautiful sky. Our ears can still hear the voices of our loved ones. – Thich Nhat Hanh
We are to learn about fear, not how to escape from it. – Jiddu Krishnamurti

4. If you don’t try, you’ll never know. Do you want to be like “what could have been?” or do you want to be like “I did this”? I tried this. I failed at this, but I still did it. That seems better to me than saying “Yeah, I thought about that, but I never did it.” – Lauren Doney

8. Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others. – Marianne Williamson

11. I just think that if you’re afraid of something it’s unlikely that fear is ever gonna subside, you’re just gonna keep feeling it by not embracing it and using it to help you move forward. I think fear is very healthy if you just learn how to use it to your advantage. Everyone’s afraid of something here and there so I think using it as a motivator rather than an obstacle is the best thing you can do. Once you learn how to do that, things are totally surmountable. – Lindsey Swett

17. When you’re afraid of something, it helps to think about what you’re feeling, think about the situation, and think about what steps you can take. There is a point though when thinking starts to provide less and less rewards until it then becomes detrimental to your situation and mental health. It can also stop you from taking any action which is the key to moving through fear. – Varonica Frye

20. “Just grit your teeth and go forward.” You know you’ll worry about it later. You know you’re afraid, but you’re still moving. And that helps. And if you do that, the flipside of fear is excitement. You can turn it so that it does help. – J.P.

21. It’s not about doing things that other people think you should be afraid of. It’s about looking within to see where your comfort zone lies and then taking steps based on that. “Little” fears are just as important to pay attention to as “big” ones. – Varonica Frye

24. I think creating helps to beat the fear. Even in making life decisions like leaving a job, we’re creating our lives. I think once we start ‘doing it’, whatever ‘it’ is, then the fear subsides. Then we’re like children at play again. When children create, they have little fear. They create for the sheer joy of creation. If we can get back to that state, and combine it with adult insight and skill, then I think that helps defeat the fear. – Brandon C. Bailey

25. If you’re waiting for a sign this is it. Your life is going to be determined by a bunch of the decisions that you make moment to moment. There isn’t ever going to be a perfect time. You’re never going to be fully ready. There’s always going to be a reason why not to do something. For anything worthwhile, there will always be an element of fear and for the things that are the most worthwhile; there will be a lot of fear. And if you can trust in your gut and be willing to get excited about that feeling of being afraid, sometimes terrified, you will live a truly magnificent life. So my last piece of advice is if you’re waiting for a sign, this is it, trust yourself and go for it. – Melissa Joy Kong
1. Love the Krishnamurthi and Frye quotes:) Krishnamurthi makes a solid point – instead of overcoming or conquering fear, let’s learn about fear. Let’s sit with fear and understand and feel fear. I have a feeling that’s a good way to get to know fear and the more that fear is known, the less power it will have over our lives.

Oh, and the one by Wahid is great too! We should spend more of our lives doing the very things that scare us.
